I'm sure it's true too sue. I find the same with hand sewing, it relaxes you and diverts your attention. I'm sure it must lower the blood pressure too.
Far too true! When I was in law school I never would have gotten through exam period without knitting. Especially lace. It's awesome having something that occupies you completely without actually being too difficult.

I suffer from chronic pain and I have found that knitting does keep me more relaxed. Because of that, I have found that my blood pressure is lower and I have fewer instances of break-through pain. I have had periods of time where I was not able to knit and those were really rough because I didn't have the calming influence that knitting gives. It also makes me feel like I am accomplishing something because who can knit without getting something out of it?!?!? I would definitely recommend taking up knitting to ANYONE that needs to reduce stress or pain.

ReplyDeleteI quite agree, but I'm not the best advocate... unfortunately the pain I've been suffering was caused by knitting.
ReplyDeleteWell, OK, strictly speaking, spinning. But exacerbated by knitting!
I totally agree, works like that for me!
ReplyDeleteNow that's an interesting concept.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting article! I find most craft work therapeutic but crochet and cross stitch is the best thing for chilling out!
