Bedfordshire for beginners

I apologise for the lousy photo and also for the pathetic leafs in this lace. Anyway these are Bedfordshire lace ( Pamela Nottingham) pattern two and Barbara Underwood Bedfordshire in 20 lessons pattern one.

Note to self, practise required :-) too much plait before picots I think on the top samples. No idea why my cameras simply refuse to take a decent photo today.

Think they are good photos and the lace is magnificent.

Well done Sue! 6 months ago, my tallies looked about like yours! A friend told me that you have to make 1000 of them...if they have not improved then, you are in trouble! Keep going! It truely is a beautiful lace!

Sue, ik looks well for a beginner! The leaves are always difficult, it took me a very long time to make them nice! Just go on and one day you will surprise yourself :)

wonder how you can do it with the plaster?
I have similar problem with the leafs. When you see closer picture of my lace, you'll see all the leafs are different. I need training too. But training comes with the quantity - after my lace is almost done I would start it all over again, making the leafs differently.... it's always like this. Can you send me the patterns for these two Berdforshire, I'll try to make my own version (in color). I'd like to make a booksmark. Have you seen these magazines, first one is all about bookmarks

I found some pictures of russian lace makers (Vologda)

Vologda is one of old russian towns, where the bobbin lace is so spread, that in Russia we usually speak of "Vologda lace" instead of "bobbin lace"

Another historical place in Russia where the lace is made is called Balakhna
