Take a stitch Tuesday...week one... fly stitch

OK, so its been quite some time since I stitched but hopefully this challenge will get things moving again. Anyone who knows me will be aware that I'm not a big fan of stitching on plain fabric or even weave so for the first stitch I have stayed with my spinning fibres that were dyed last weekend.

Blog 2012 018

As for format, I've stuck with ATC size (3.5 inch x 2.5 inch )  which is handy and fits in with previous samples. Also I managed to find plastic wallets at our local supermarket so I can easily file and display them.

The background was made on my embellisher  using selected small amounts of the dyed fibres.

Sorry about the weird lighting in the photo but my workroom is not brilliant in the winter time.

I then spun small amounts of thread on a drop spindle.

and used them to stitch the sample.

Apology

Firstly I must apologise for not getting back to everyone who has commented on my last couple of posts, I will be trying my best this week to catch up.
Unfortunately my first full week at work doing a full job proved to be difficult than I thought, mentally more than physically so the computer and blogging took a back shelf. However things were helped by a session at stitched up on Wednesday night (thanks ladies)

On Friday, Claire from Pinky and Boo came to my rescue by texting me an offer to teach using the embellisher machine in her class at the textile workshop on Friday night. Needless to say I jumped at the offer and would even have arrived on time if I hadn't got caught up in a cycle demo in town!!
Ths class was great fun with one student finishing her wet felted bag with a large needle felted flower and another who added silk fibres to an existing wet felt piece to make what I think will be a small hanging rather than a purse. Everyone had a go and had some fun and we didn't break a single needle!!!

The postman bought this ATC all the way from Australia, he's so cute!!! Thanks Laura.
I hope my ATC makes the long journey safely.

TAST revisited, week twenty four

I,ve been having a quiet week as I'm having to get used to using my wrist without the support of the splint which is interesting to say the least. Sadly I will be returning to work soon and that is going to be such a big shock to the system that I may go quiet again for a while :-)

Anyway, a few things to show.

What If? lace experiment continues

What if I try and intergrate bobbin lace with oddments of threads using the embellisher? First tentative results here:

seem to be making some sort of progress here :-)

My first bobbin lace ATC

The lace is off the pillow and I realise that I don't want to add embroidery but simply have the lace alone.

The Atc has a cutaway so the lace structure can be seen more clearly.

I suspect I will soon be playing with my bobbins again!!

Maybe with wire??

TAST Revisited Bonnet Stitch

week 14, Bonnet stitch, cotton and wool on embellished background.

Lace experiment continues :-)

I was hoping to stitch more today but I was my usual clumsy self, tripped up and bruised both hand and knees, look like a little kid with scuffed trousers. Anyway it put a stop to the stitching for a while but hopefully will be a bit better by tomorrow as we are off the watch the bike racing. I hope you all have a good weekend.

Kates ATC Challenge

Last month, Kate issued a challenge to make an ATC from bases provided by herself. These pieces of material have been sat by the computer awaiting inspiration which suddenly struck last night.

postal treats part one

Sorry about the brief gap in blogging, a tricky virus (human not computer) has had me confined to bed for the last two days or so. Now on the mend and well enough to show off the treats received in the post.
This is an ATC challenge set by Kate, simply create an ATC using some of the fabric and the embellishments (optional) and return by the end of September. Thanks Kate, watch out for the postie next month .

The bad news is that the virus now has hold of Ian so its fingers crossed that we are both fit for our next trip.
