Fun at the Guild

At yesterdays meeting of Notts and District Guild of Handspinners, Weavers and Dyers we had a workshop by Linda Rudkin on flower pounding.
Flower pounding involves hitting flowers with a hammer ( ok not quite that simple ) and I would recommend that you look at the gallery on Lindas site to see how effective this is. Admittedly, it didn't really grab me, maybe a bit too realistic but everyone had great fun and there were even ear plugs available :-)

looks fascinating but this is one hobby I definitely do not have enough room for!!!

Great photos. I think I would prefer quieter activities than all that pounding.

Wow...I've not got that much detail when I've tried. Mostly they mush out. You have the touch. The colors of the Textiles are beautiful.

I have to admit that Pete ( a fellow spinner) and myself escaped outside in the afternoon to enjoy a cup of tea in the peace and quiet of the countryside. I think ear plugs are a good idea when there are 20 people playing with hammers !!

Love the effect with the pounding, but I think the noise would be too much for me! Those Kenyan designs are stunning!

..love the scarves....

I passed-on two four-shaft floor looms about 6 years ago. Not enough time/room/inclination for weaving yardage any more.

I kept my Norwegian tapestry looms though...wouldn't part with them for anything...and they sit flat against the wall when not in use.

"Flower pounding"...hmmmmm....that's a new one on me :-)

The pounding looks interesting. As for the loom...that is one of the big boys...did you know there is a tabletop loom? I believe Ashford makes it. I have a huge 7 ft Sprigg's Triangle loom and stand. I love the thing!

I'm not sure I'd be in to flower pounding either. The African fabrics are beautiful.

I love the pansy image transferred onto the fabric and really like the idea of using something natural like a flower or leaf. I just can't imagine pounding a flower with a hammer, seems a bit harsh. Silly I know :). Haven't visited your blog for ages Sue, I've missed it! xx
