spinning experiment

ok, it was only an experiment and the only use I have found for the yarn is knitting pan scrubbers although I am open to suggestions!

Just take several plastic carrier bags, cut into strips and spin :-)

I think these samples are Morrisons and Asda bags

So this is why Ian cannot find any bags for the household waste! Don't forget we need some for the Last Drop Guzzisue!

Year ago I was given a crocheted hat made from plastic bread bags - my 'something for nothing' gift - it was hell to wear in the midsummer sun! And i still have coathangers covered in the same thread that I was given 29 years ago . They are virtually indestructible but really good at keeping slippery fabrics on the hanger. I prefer embroidered fabric ones! Just have never filled my wardrobe with them!

Pot scrubbers are a great idea! What about shopping totes or door mats?

Ive seen those open weave shopping bags made of these and its a great idea. They would last forever! Neat idea with the scrubbies!

Yes, I've seen bags and baskets knitted in plastic yarn like this!

Hi Guzzisue,

I used to do this back in the seventies. That was before I learned that most plastic bags have lead in the paint of the label on them.

I'd check it out before I would try it again.

But you are right they do wear forever.

Hugs, Euphoria

My Mum used to crochet coathanger covers with this stuf, though she used to just cut the bags into strips. I think a crocheted bag sounds like a better idea.

great idea! I'd heard of crocheting with cut up carrier bags but had never thought of spinning it first!

Guzzisue! What a cool idea. It seems that you are as obsessed with this new art form as I am! Spin away!!

I was too lazy - again - and used the cut up bags straight for knitting and crochet. they made extremely sturdy shopping bags - with timber dowels for handles! you can also leave the "yarn" stronger and make log baskets and other "bowls" out of it! my piece de resistance was a knitted vest for outdoor use - nearly watertight from the outside - but unfortunately from the inside also, which lead to extreme perspiration! not my most successful project:)) you might be able to use them as exfoliating "scrubber" for yourself - instead of potscrubbers for the kitchen sink?
