Not quite Skeggy

 Yep, not quite Skegness, just the other side of the golf course on Skegness Sands Caravan Park. The touring part of the site is affiliated to the caravan club and £23.00 per night at this time of year is a tempting deal.

Part of the site is open and a smaller area is laid out with traditional pitches, we have camped in both, I prefer the pitches with the strips of grass to separate the vans.

Turning right from the camp you have a spar shop and a general small bits and bobs store ( during the season) turning left you have a couple of cafes and an amusement arcade (  open weekends and during the season) and that is it apart from the surrounding houses and the large Derbyshire Miners Convalescence Home which is currently closed awaiting redevelopment.

I may have spent time in the cafe :-)

Last time we stayed on this site, we heard the foghorn but couldn't work out where it was coming from. This time I grabbed a coffee and walked down to the front. This confirmed that my fog horn is actually out to sea on the wind farm ( which on that morning I couldn't see at all)

Skegness has a small museum, Church Farm museum, and this time we managed to visit (previous attempt sabotaged by a covid outbreak amongst the volunteers)

I spotted three spinning wheels although only grabbed photos of two.

The bobbins were in disarray  as usual and a local volunteer makes rag rugs to sell at the museum.

The wooden frame of this cottage was discovered inside another one on demolition, saved , then moved to the museum and restored.

Out buildings contained old farm implements, vintage vehicles, smithy and much, much more. One shed contained a display of corn dollies and a model railway.

We ended our visit with tea and biscuits in the cafe whilst talking to the volunteers.

This sign was spotted outside a bar about half a mile from the campsite, I 'm not sure whether to be worried ??

Anyway, that's about it for now, we are back home booking campsite for the next trip.

I'm back, shaking the sand from my shoes.

Sorry for being a little more quiet than usual but I've been up to my neck in wool and yarn (separate spinning post coming soon ) and we took advantage of the recent unusually warm weather and grabbed a few days away in the van.

We headed out to the east coast, Skegness to be precise. Not our usual choice of seaside place but we found a campsite just a little out of the town and a few yards from the beach. The beach was pretty deserted and the local amenities amounted to a bar, cafe, amusement arcade and in the other direction, a spar shop so it suited us nicely.

As the summer season hasn't yet started, the two attractions we had hoped to see were closed, one  only operating in school holidays  and the other closed due to covid.

The Village, a farm museum in Skegness looks really interesting but as covid had caught up with the staff we marked it down as somewhere to have a look round next time.

The Lincolnshire coast railway, narrow gauge diesel and steam line only open in the summer but the volunteers were more than happy for us to have a look round.

In the airfield next door it looked like a restoration project underway on the Lightning aircraft parked up to one side.

We spent a few hours in Skegness, wandering round the shops but staying out of the arcades that had opened up to take advantage of the warm weather, 

Hot chocolate and Lincolnshire sausage rolls made a a rather unhealthy but very tasty lunch break

On Saturday we walked over to the railway then on to Ingoldmells to see if the market was on as we are looking for some new throws to go on the seats in the van.

The coasters were just starting up as we walked along. We scoured the market but couldn't find what we were looking for but Ian did spot this sign, replica weapons and educational toys??

We returned to our quiet beach and got the kites out for a while then I managed to win yet another small model campervan to add to the ever growing collection on the penny falls and surprisingly it took less than 50 p in 2ps to rescue it from the machine.

The campsite was pretty full but very friendly, possibly because most people were from our part of the country. Facilities immaculate as you would expect from a Caravan Club affiliated site,

slow time of year

Hi,

I can't believe that we are already 3/4 of the way through January, not sure where the time goes!

Firstly a confession, I've stepped down from the embroidery challenge as after a day or so it just didn't grab me. I think my head isn't into thread at the moment, just fluff and yarn!

We did manage a day out last weekend, headed off to the east coast and watched some sand racing but it was very cold and wet so didn't hang around for long. I only took my small camera which really doesn't like being cold so not many photos.

After  we had thawed out in the café we headed down to Skegness and trawled the charity shops for books, cds and dvds.

The previous day I had been out with my mate and popped into the nearby Oxfam shop and came out with these.

               

I like the Journal book as it also has squared paper in it so you can chart your designs for fair isle although most of mine have mistakes in them... must not do this when tired, just leads to frustration.

The purple hat is completed and I've decided that this one is mine !!

and I've started another kep, this time Jacob. manx loaghtan and Portland in the mix.

I nearly forgot, I bagged this book from Amazon as it was on sale at £4.99 so much for my desire to stop buying books etc!!

Still, I have plenty of fleece to spin, at the moment its more of the grey Ryland :-)

The nice man from the computer shop called again and returned the computer, clean, now with windows 10 loaded and some useful office software. Excellent customer service from this small business.

But the day went downhill as a test ride on the BMW threw up problems which meant that hubby wasn't going to get away for the weekend. After messing around with it, cussing it and eventually shutting it in the garage we jumped in the car and headed for the coast.

The nearest coast from here is 80 odd miles so we didn't get there until 4pm and it was starting to get cold ( remember this is winter , 5c is normal) so we had a walk to the pier.

We had a laugh at the funfair signage, you can buy a wristband to go on the rides in the evening for just £10 after 5pm.....what time did the funfair close yesterday?   5pm !!

The mist started to come back down again

so we headed off to play the slots before having something to eat

 and I won another little camper van for my collection :-)
