I am a member of Unlimited Textiles, an internet swap group although I don't always have time to play.
This month the subject for the 5 inch quiltie was seasons and I received this lovely autumn quiltie from June ( I don't seem to have blog details for June, If you have one can you add a link in the comments? thanks)

Unlimited Textiles Quiltie

Its been a while since I took part in an unlimited textile swap so I signed up to make a 5 inch quiltie on the theme of Seasons. I had forgotten how relaxing it is to make something entirely by hand. I was going to finish it on the sewing machine but decided that it would look wrong.

So here it is.



Plan of attack today...wander into town to look at Nottingham by the sea. Yes they appear to have imported the seaside into our city centre...watch out for the photos!

Postal Treats

Lovely needle felted quiltie from Liz at Unlimited Textiles, this months theme is landscape ( I still have to start mine but the idea is there)

Bank Holiday Playday

Today, Good Friday, sees the start of the Round Britain Rally and Ian together with Biker Ted were up and out early. The plan was to bag a few landmarks and attend a meeting of fellow rallyists to mark the first day of the challenge.
This left me to my own devices so I decided to have a sort through one of my cupboards to see what was hiding at the back.
First find was some pastel dyesticks and skeleton leaves, so I made some rubbings onto a piece of dyed cotton, added some batting, machine stitching ,metallic paint and voila a quiltie or postcard or ATCS, not sure which.
I really need to practise more with my machine stitching, suspect I try to stitch too fast sometimes.

I then found some old dyes that a fellow student had given me maybe 5 years ago. Rather than throw them out, I used them for some plastic bag dying for use as backgrounds and discovered that the brown dye did not work at all.
Most of the results were quite pale but I am sure that they will get used sooner or later
The silk fabric picked up the colours as lovely pastels

The only problem is that my room is even more of a mess now.!!

Unlimited Textile Egypt Quiltie

The subject for this months quiltie swap was Egypt so here is a winged scarab beetle, hand dyed cotton, organza, metallic and pearl paint, oil stick and metallic ribbon. Machine stitched 5inch square. As usual, click for details

Swap display

I have been wondering for a while about the best way to store and display swap items. During the great book sort out I found a photo album which seems to be perfect for postcards, atc, inchies, bookmarks and 5 inch quilties and looks lots smarter that the shoe box that was their temporary home.

A Dark and Dreary Night

was brightened up by a plain brown envelope waiting on the doorstep when I got home.





This is the November quiltie from Unlimited Textile group my swap partner was Susan D who sent me this wonderful quiltie with a silk fibre background with hand embroidered leaf doodle and beads. The photo does not do it justice as the border is actually browner than shown but both my scanner and camera had problems for some reason.

Postal treats

I love it when the postman calls, today I came home to the Quilting Arts Magazine gift special and the lovely ATC from Neki in Spain.
If anyone has any ideas about how to display a collection of Quilties, ATC etc I would be interested to hear from them, I've been thinking of some kind of book format so I can maybe have page per person/2 people so I can keep their tags and items together.

November quiltie

This is my November quiltie for Unlimited Textile Internet group, the theme is Autumn. briefly it has a background of handmade paper (purchased) computer printed vilene, leaves, hand stitched with beads with a border of handmade felt. It is on the way to Suz in the states.

..................When Sue gets carried away with the hand stitching!!!! This is my October offering for Unlimited Textiles group 'feeling blue' category.

Still it was fun to stitch and I hope Liz C likes it.

Blue Quiltie

This wonderful quiltie popped through the door this morning together with a packet of goodies to play with (I am really enjoying being part of this group). It was stitched by Linda from the Unlimited Textiles group.

The subject for October was Feeling Blue, I am busy stitching my quiltie for Liz and must admit that I am getting carried away with the stitching so the final piece will be more embroidery than quilt- I hope you don't mind Liz.

Quiltie and shopping

This wonderful quiltie was waiting on my doorstep when I got home. It was stitched by Sue Krekorian from unlimited textiles group- Thanks Sue.

This stall was spotted on the market at Dignes Les Bains, lots of useful wooden thingies

Couldn't resist buying a FRENCH french knitting doll and the other item is a wooden sewing case, your needles go inside the bobbly bit, your threads on the outside then it slides into the wooden cylinder and the screw top is your thimble.
