Past the finishing post, Week three tour de fleece.

 Hi,

I stopped spinning on Sunday and i am now giving my hands a rest for a few days.

Over the last three weeks I have achieved my goals of...

spinning down the stash (slightly)

restocking my yarn stash for road trip knitting

spinning in public more and making friends with my Louet Victoria who is often neglected as I tend to use the e-spinner.

I have found that, with a little concentration, I can spin a bobbin on each wheel and ply successfully, I still love hand prepped fleece to spin and I'm now used to having my photo taken :-)

Fleece spun, lleyn x texel,  ryeland, texel, jacob, texel x ? , suffolk x bfl, texel x jacob.

All skeins min 100gm, max 150gm (large skein to use up the last of a fleece) except the diddy purple one which came in at 67gm.

Total weight around 1.8 kilo

My next job is to sort out the aran from from the dk and the 4 ply weights and hope for a couple of nice days next week so I can dye some of the white skeins.

The spinning wheel is packed away until the next festival.

Tour de fleece, week two round up.

 Hi,

Week two saw me at the Framework knitters museum in Ruddington ( after a stormy start waiting for a bus in the centre of town)

Again spinning in a couple of cafes whilst enjoying coffee and a good old natter.

I've spent more time simply prepping fibre this week so my actual spun total was just five skeins but still not bad for one week!

Remember the Jacob project?

I've just finished the last 100gm of the Jacob project. The plan is to use this yarn as my knitting project for our next road trip.

I ended up with a reasonable selection of shades and I may swap in in of my recent light grey ryeland spins as well.

These will now be packed away before I'm tempted to start knitting with them !

Tour de fleece, week one round up.

Over the last seven days I've been spinning, at home, in cafes and outdoors. I'm slowly making friends again with my Louet spinning wheel which really doesn't get a lot of use these days as I tend to use the e-spinner all the time.

Spinning locations have included local cafes, Neros and Nottingham Castle so far.

Bobbins have been filled and emptied

and I now have seven skeins of yarn to add to my knitting stash, Jacob,  Ryeland. Lleyn x Texel and Texel x (dyed)

Plans for week two include the Framework knitters museum at Ruddington and a craft fair planned for week three.

A hint of Steam

Yesterday we had a day out in the car. We took the last of my Dads railway memorabilia to the Great Central Railway so they can sell the items to raise funds for the running of the railway.
As its several years since he died, his collection of mugs from the preserved lines around the country had been collecting dust on the shelves of their house which is now being sold. It was a morning of washing 30 plus mugs, picking out a couple to keep, and packing them plus books and models into boxes.

We didn't go on the train this time but will do in the near future, however a good walk round the station bought back many memories as I had spent some of my teenage years visiting the railway.

I'm actually quite please with the days photos.

Tour de Fleece days 1-3

 Hi

Due to a family engagement I had to change my plans around but still managed 100 gm plus of Lleyn x Texel on first day.

I followed this up with 3 bobbins on Day Two.

spun a further bobbin on the third morning and plyed up the resulting 200 gm.

So far I've managed 100 gm per day but at some point I will have to stop and process some more but it would be nice to spin the whole of this fleece by the end of the challenge.

The plan tomorrow is to take the wheel out with me, I had planned this for Sunday but it was so windy that I would have spent all afternoon chasing the fleece and ended up taking some bobbin lace instead.

Today I did take a spindle but after finishing knitting my hat ,some friends unexpectedly turned up in the same cafe which put an end to any spinning.

Further update in a few days.
