Short and sweet this evening, I've been practicing spinning the really short Manx Loughton fleece from drum carded batts.
So not my style but I need to work on it, I much prefer around 3inch plus staple rather than the 1 inch or so with this one.
I've also re-skeined and labelled the completed TDF skeins so I know what they are etc.
and that pretty much is that for today.
Stay safe xx

Hi Sue
Do you find the short staples spin quite fluffy, or do you have a technique to deal with that? I worry that the short staples will pill too much, even after slight fulling in hot water. I don’t like short staples either!
Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Hi, great question, not sure what the answer is at the moment but I'm working on it. I started with a short backward ? draw which helped keep the fibres in but took way too long for me.
I soon resorted to my normal supported long sort of long draw. Definitely a bit fluffy and even though I tried to pick any neps out you can see where there may be fluffier spots. I think it will pill, I'll know better once I have a skein to play with . I will wash the small sample that I spun the other day and see how much it 'blooms' Since I often only use a colour as a highlight in my knitting along with other yarns, I'm not too worried about the pilling but if it was a whole garment...I'll pop this in a blog post in a few days once I've thought about it a bit more. Give me a longer staple any day :-)
What a lovely array of colors!!!
